I also like the dark feel of the photo. Having known where the picture was taken also helps in understanding the atmosphere that was captured. If you tried to get more light on the paining you may have effected the cool light shadows produced by the lamp. The one thing I might have changed is to compose the picture so the lamp is more in the center so we can get a better view of the shadows it is creating on the wall.

Personally, I like it the way it was shot. I prefer the mystery of not knowing about the painting to actually being able to see more detail. I also feel that more of the painting would have detracted from the focus and mood and would have made the painting itself the concept. Well done.

Hi Trisa I like your concept

Hi Trisa
I like your concept for this photo. Nicely done, but I would have liked to see more detail in the painting. I know how hard it is to get the exposure so you don't overexpose the bright lamp (good job with that by the way), but there are at least a couple of ways you could lighten up the painting without washing out the light. For starters, you could use a reflector to reflect some light onto the painting. Second, a lot of cameras have some form of "Dynamic range" enhancement (D-Lighting on Nikon, DRO on Sony) that will do it for you. Third you can do it in any photo editing program that uses Layers (almost all of them do nowadays). Good eye for seeing the image.
